Round Mountain Society

The Legend
The serene area that surrounds Studio Channel Islands Art Center is rich in ancient Chumash history and lore. A most charming legend involves Round Mountain, just south of the front entrance to the Studio. It was an important navigational point for the Chumash people as they charted their course from the Channel Islands to the mainland. As the story goes, God created a rainbow bridge from Anacapa Island to Round Mountain. They were warned that those who were tempted to look down as they crossed the bridge would fall into the sea. Of course, there were those curious souls who could not resist temptation, and they became the friendly dolphins, who follow our boats and try to communicate with humans, even to this day.

The Round Mountain Society is an annual recognition of those who support SCIART with a gift of $3,000 or more, which can be given over the course of three years. Joining the Round Mountain Society offers several unique bnefits. Society members will be invited to special Previews for select exhibits; a Private Reception will be planned with our exhibiting artists for a “Meet the Artist” event; and an exclusive Art Tour led by our own Gallery Director, Michele DePuy Leavitt. The Galleries and Courtyard may be reserved for a Private Event hosted by a member of
The Round Mountain Society.

The Round Mountain Society will create the bridge of our vision to the security of our future.
