Art Center Celebrates Move To New Location With Gala and Re-dedication Ceremony August 2 and 3
We invite you to join Studio Channel Islands Art Center as we celebrate another major milestone toward becoming a premier regional art center!
On August 2nd and 3rd we will be celebrating the grand opening of our new gallery:
The Blackboard Gallery at Studio Channel Islands Art Center.
Our Studios and Gallery will finally be together again!
We have finished the first phase of renovations to transform a former school auditorium into a fine art gallery so we are planning a two-day Celebration! There will be a Gala on Friday night, August 2, and a public Celebration the following day.
The school auditorium was added to the Pleasant Valley Elementary School in 1949, when it was dedicated by then School Board Chairman Adolfo Camarillo. A re-dedication of the building will take place on Saturday, August 3rd, at 2:00 pm, with Pleasant Valley School District officials, as well as many other dignitaries and public officials celebrating with us. We will be honoring the legacy of our founders, the generosity of our many supporters, and the fine art of Studio Channel Islands Art Centers’ outstanding artists. It will also be an opportunity to acknowledge the history and legacy of the Pleasant Valley School in the heart of Old Town Camarillo—and the Art Center that is now growing and thriving at the site.
The celebration will continue with music, refreshments, art demonstrations and art activities for children, followed by a Reception from 4 until 6, with many of the exhibiting artists attending.Winners of the show “Unlimited” will be announced during the Reception. As a special thank you to our community, all visitors will receive a 15% discount of all purchases in the Gallery and Gift Store on Saturday, August 3. Free parking and admission all day!
At the Gala on Friday night, August 2, at 6:00 pm, guests will have an opportunity to preview the new location in an elegant setting. The First Annual Medici Award for outstanding support for the arts will be awarded to Maggie Kildee for her leadership and years of distinguished service to Studio Channel Islands—and to the community as well. Maggie has supported the Studio since its founding in 1998. And as a school teacher, County Supervisor, and artist, she has given much to the community. The Master of Ceremonies for this gala evening will be Daniel Stern, actor of “Home Alone” fame, and sculptor with studios at the Art Center.
Gala guests will receive a special hand-made “Art Gift”, enjoy live music, a gourmet dinner catered by Twenty88 Bistro and a selection of fine wines provided by the California Wine Club. There will be over 30 unique and exciting items available in the Silent Auction, ranging from one-on-one art experiences to beach vacations and elegant dinners. As a one-of-a-kind door prize, one of the centerpieces created by our artists will go home with the lucky winner.
